Professor Chris Kemp a former refuse collector, social worker, rock promotor, venue manager and university Pro vice Chancellor is now the founder, CEO and owner of Mind over Matter Consultancy. He is a renowned expert in a number of areas. These areas span a wide range of disciplines including crowd and safety management, business continuity, security, leadership, team development, music and venue management, music genre classification and sports development. From past research, he has created a number of theoretical models which are used in musicology, business continuity and crowd management. Professor Kemp is known throughout the world for his work on the safety of crowded places and his ceaseless endeavor to make events safer. His articles are widely publicised in the major magazines and the international press and he is at the forefront or work in the development of a safer concert environment. As the Director of the Yourope Event Safety Group (YES) Chris has been asked to speak on many occasions across the globe on aspects of crowd safety. These aspects range from crowd behavior to dynamics. He has also addressed the House of Commons Select Committee for Olympic Security on the merits of training for the 2012 Olympic Games as well as addressing the Royal Society of Medicine on the merits of command and control policing in times of riot. Chris was employed by the HSE as their crowd expert for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He is well published and has written a number of books ranging from punk and hardcore, through crowd management to education. Having worked in the music industry as a promoter and venue manager for over a decade before entering academia, he has a wide range of practical knowledge as well as an academic underpinning to his work. Chris promoted and managed over 3000 events from the London Contemporary Dance Company, the Royal Shakespeare Company and Iron Maiden to World Championship Snooker and Championship Boxing Events. His rock club, the Pitz was voted one of the top five rock and indie venues in the UK.  Chris has a first degree in human movement, a master’s degree in arts administration and a PhD in cognitive psychology. He is also a professor of Public Policy at Edinburgh Napier University and has been a Professor in Event Safety at Sydney University of Technology and Crowd management at Bucks New University.
