Coordinator of Copyright Service – Romanian Television Company – TVR, Vicepresident UPFAR ARGOA, collective management organization of audiovisual producers
Having a legal background, Laurențiu Oprea started his professional career within the Romanian Copyright Office in 1997, where he worked until 2010, holding a manager’s position within the Directorate for National Registers and Collective Management. In this capacity he contributed to the development of the collective management system in Romania and the National Registers in this field. Laurențiu was part of the team drawing up and supporting the legislative projects in the field of copyright and also supervised the negotiations between the collective management organizations and their users, including show organizers.
Ever since 2010 Laurențiu Oprea has been coordinating the copyright department within TVR, Romania’s public television station, and is in charge for negotiatiating copyright contracts for TVR produced shows and events (Eurovision), licensing, anti-piracy, trademark registrations and the relation with the collective management organizations.
Since April 2017 he is vicepresident of UPFARARGOA, the collective management organization for the rights of film and audiovisual producers.
He has been a lecturer on copyright within the professional training programs for show organizers and managers organized by the National Institute for Research and Cultural Training. Moreover, Laurențiu also held a position of State Secretary with the Romanian Ministry of Culture. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Rights Scientific Association and the editorial group of the Romanian Magazine for Intellectual Property.
