With four completed editions to date, EEMC brought together large festival organisers (Mad Cool Festival, EXIT Festival, Roskilde Festival), as well as producers and managers (Ruud Berends, Fruzsina Szép, Henrik Bondo Nielsen, Thomas Zsifkovits) from the European music industry, an endeavour which has been uniquely accomplished in the Romanian space by EEMC. The conference’s tackled subjects have ranged from programming and artist management to logistical challenges, as well as health & safety best practices and solutions, with a focus on large scale events.

Whether by theme, by the sheer number of attendants, or by tackled subjects, EEMC is set to grow steadily from year to year until it becomes an industry landmark.

EEMC was created by ARTmania, the name behind many music industry advances in Romania, from events, to policy changes. Over the years ARTmania has developed or co-organized important projects like ARTmania Festival Sibiu, the oldest post-communist rock music festival in Romania, considered a landmark of the genre, Blaj aLive, a world music festival, His Holiness’ Pope Francis Holy Mass in Romania (Liberty Field, 2019), and music industry conferences.

With music itself being more easily accessible to larger and larger audiences every day, the business model, especially for young artist and music industry professionals who are just starting out, needs to be adjusted.

More often than not, business models and planning are disciplines that are out of reach for most young artists, and the Federation of Music Conferences is a project that can help release the business potential of emerging players in the music industry, by both acting as a think tank to put forward actionable and accessible ways to help them turn their work in a profitable endeavor, as well as by putting together and publishing what ultimately constitutes a network of opportunity – from showcase festivals, to legal resources, to auditioning for more types of music related work.

The Federation of Music Conferences is an excellent starting point towards acknowledging that the music industry is made of more than just live performance, and it has lucrative ties to the film, gaming and other media industries, where musical artists can thrive. Coming up with plans for a multi-potential network and implementing it is the best we can do to help everyone inside this industry (and a rather non-negligible amount of people in auxiliary professions) make the most of the productive connections it provides.
