Interim Minister of Culture, Romania
András István Demeter is the acting Minister of Culture, with a career spanning the intersection of acting, institutional management, and cultural policy. He has solid experience in cultural administration, having served three terms as State Secretary and one as Director General at the Ministry of Culture, where he played a key role in coordinating the “Sibiu 2007” and “Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture” programs. Between 2010 and 2021, he served on the board of directors of the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation, serving as chairman and general director for two years, during which time he founded Radio Romania Chișinău and launched the International Radio Orchestras Festival (RADIRO), one of the most important musical events of its kind in the region. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Acting from “Szentgyörgyi István” University in Târgu Mureș, is a graduate of the European cultural management program ECUMEST (Dijon), and holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from “Tibiscus” University in Timișoara. He won the first national management competition organized for the leadership of a theater institution in Romania, serving for over a decade as director of the “Csiky Gergely” State Theater in Timișoara. He has represented Romania at international forums such as UNESCO, the EBU, and Francophone organizations. His work has been recognized with awards such as the “King Michael I Medal for Loyalty” and the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic.
